Facebook Stalking
With all of the new features on facebook, including the buddy chat, I couldn't help but wonder what exactly these features do for us. Yes, facebook is a cool program that allows people to connect with others and see what they are up to but the more I thought about, the more I realized that it really has no point. It just promotes stalking and people being judgemental of others. Case in point: this article from last month. What do you guys think: Do you like facebook? What does it provide for you?

I remember when I was a freshman refusing to join facebook because I thought the entire concept was creepy and downright stupid. But - when I did join I of course got addicted right away. I do not surround my entire life around facebook, but it really is a good way to keep in touch with people - especially friends from high school. It's a way to share pictures and information too - even though I hate to admit it, I think that facebook is a useful social tool. Anyone think otherwise and completely HATE it? I'd like to know if someone in our class does not have a page!
Agreed. I really like how it allows people to keep in touch. Its nice to be able to see how people are doing miles away by just signing on to facebook and scanning their facebook. I do think sometimes its a little invasive and obviously people do abuse it, but its a nice program to have available.
I was a very late adopter to the whole Facebook craze, mostly because of the nickname it earned among so many people around my office - "stalker.com." Armed with a name, you could learn all sorts of things about a person... but then after being on the site for a little while, I realized that it's people themselves who put out the most incriminating kinds of things. Some people just don't have a filter or good judgment about what to put up. When I was younger, my Dad always pressed that putting your info "out there" was an invitation for trouble. I'm not entirely sure I believe him on this, but it's absolutely like putting your picture up and walking around with a typed up page of your likes/dislikes, interests, relationship status, contact information, etc. It still kinda creeps me out, especially now with the chat feature. People I haven't talked to in 10 years are looking me up and wanting to talk. It's strange...
