Well since signing up for StumbleUpon last week I am officially addicted and am finding some really fun and interesting stuff on the internet. I was getting really bored with the usual sites I was visiting so the Stumble button is creating more interest in my daily internet time.
Using Stumble I found this site called Musicovery. Its a site that can lead the user to new music, but does it in an interesting and highly visual manner. You can choose a spot on a perceptual map of Calm to Energetic and Dark to Positive. You can also pick and choose which genres you would like to explore. The web like music map on the side changes with each new song you play connecting similar songs. Since I am always searching for some new great music this has become my new favorite tool.
Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Check Check it out.

Thats pretty cool. It funny how everyone seems to be trying out stumbleupon now. Its really creative how they cater to your individual interests.
I'm pretty interested in this aspect of music. I wish there were some more information about how this works [specifically, where they're getting their data from--on how they get their music, and how they categorize it].
Right now, it seems that there are two competing methods of linking music. Last.fm's methodology is a lot like Google's Page Rank system, where Artist A is similar to Artist B if a lot of people who listen to Artist A also listen to Artist B.
Pandora codifies music into a "Genome," so that you can objectively compare one song to another based on a long binary string of attributes (Does the song have female vocals? Does the song have sitar? Etc.)
The problem with the latter is that it requires coders to encode songs, and they're not perfect. The former is problematic in that it fails to account for those with eclectic tastes.
